Continuing a trend seen the last few semesters, AUC's Fall 2010 enrollment is up 8%.  While the growth in new students is helping to drive this increase, retention is at it's highest in over 15 years.

For the past 1 1/2 years, the music department was in "teach out" mode.  While the program has always developed highly talented alumni in the music field, the program was not considered financially viable.  This past week, the board voted to reestablish the music program after a fiscally responsible plan was presented that was in tune with the school focus on community engagement.  We look forward to our future music students joining the alumni family.

AUC Accreditation Update PDF Print E-mail

There have been a lot of questions about AUC's accreditation.  While those in the Atlantic Union receive regular monthly updates in the Gleaner, I wanted to give a quick summary for others interested.  There is more information from the college in the most recent issues of AUC Today a regularly updated section on AUC.edu (Also, if you haven't checked out the AUC.edu site lately, you are in for a treat).  In short, the probation has been lifted and NEASC (the accrediting body) and AUC have agreed to part ways July 31, 2011.  Therefore, AUC is pursuing accreditation with another body.

Here's the new rumor:  Even if AUC achieves accreditation from the new body, students will not be able to transfer credits.  AUC did consider a number of options but dismissed certain accrediting bodies as there would have been significant limitations on students transferring credits and entering graduate school.  The accrediting body AUC has already applied to (ACICS) is widely acknowledged and accepted.  There are in fact certain schools that will not fully accept the credits, but they are few and not actively used by the students.  Additionally, in the highly unlikely case another school will not recognize the ACICS accreditation, the college has established a partnership with Washington Adventist University (WAH), accredited by the Middle States Regional Accrediting Association, so that those students credits will transfer through WAH and they will not be inconvenienced.

Continue to pray for our school.  A lot of great progress has been made and the students are a wonderful group.  We continually hear that alumni are blessed every time they interact with them.
